About Edali

Edali Hernandez was born and educated in Mexico. The colorful folk costumes of Mexico’s Indigenous peoples caught her imagination at an early age and led her to study and develop a deep interest in the traditions, art and handicrafts of the Americas.

Later, she entered the practical world of business. In 1983, Edali became sales manager for CASART, a government agency founded to promote and support artisans from the State of Mexico. She exhibited and marketed fine products from many artists and artisans throughout Mexico.

In 1986, she moved to the United States and started a handicrafts wholesale company. In the early 1990s, she founded a retail business devoted to limited-production handmade products. In 1995, she opened a store in San Antonio’s historic Market Square, the heart of Mexican culture in Texas.

The following year, she opened a larger store in the same area, giving her the opportunity to display handicrafts from several Latin American countries. The store, Los Pueblitos—“the little towns”—honored the villages where many Mexican handicrafts are still produced.

Los Pueblitos became well known and appreciated throughout the United States and was featured in national magazines and newspapers. Its handicrafts reflected Edali’s love for the colors, shapes, materials and ingenuity found in cultures with a distinctive mixture of European and Indigenous heritage.

Edali traveled extensively around the world in search of exceptional handicrafts for her most discerning customers. Talavera pottery remained one of her favorites: a traditional craft distinguished by its beauty and rich history.

With Talavera Emporium, Edali devoted her time and care to assembling a collection that included master artisans authorized to sign and certify the authenticity of their work. She hoped everyone would love it as much as she did.
